The Peruvian Medical Federation (FMP) started the indefinite national strike demanding job improvements for health professionals who belong to this union. This occurs in the middle of the second wave of COVID-19 in the country.
Godofredo Talavera, president of the FMP, assured that the Government with increasing the remuneration of doctors and has not complied with paying health professionals the so-called COVID Bonus, which has not been delivered since October last year.
The union leader pointed out that they have tried to establish channels of dialogue with Mazzetti and with the president himself Francisco Sagasti, but have not gotten a satisfactory answer.
“In view of the fact that the Government does not fulfill its commitments. In 2016 we voted for a government plan that clearly stated that it was going to increase 0.5% of GDP per year. It has been 5 years and we have increased 0.4% and in a pandemic. This is insufficient and will make us in worse conditions regarding the care of our patients “, said.
“All professionals signed letters of commitment for a salary scale in 2015. The first part occurred in 2018, then the second in 2019 and we were deceived in 2020. They told us in April, August, September and December [del año pasado]; however, we did not receive anything “he added.
At another time, the head of the FMP clarified that patients are not being treated as a result of this strike, among which are the COVID-19 treatment, but that the mobilization is carried out by groups progressively. He specified that greater measures will be taken in the event that the dialogue and an agreement with the Minsa do not materialize.
It is worth mentioning that Talavera Chávez, last December, pointed out that the medical union has a series of claims, including the departure of the Minister of Health, Pilar Mazzetti.
