Ervin Santana returns to Kansas City and can earn up to $ 3.2 million

The #Royals signed right-hander #Ervin #Santana to a minor league contract #Tuesday, giving a shot to a veteran who didn’t pitch in 2020.

#Santana’s deal is for $ 1.5 million in base salary if he stays on the team with another $ 1.7 million in performance incentives.

#Santana is a veteran of 15 major league seasons, including one with the #Royals in 2013, in which he had a 3.24 ERA in 32 starts, coming via trade from the #Angels. #After that, the #Dominican would sign with the #Braves.

#Now 38, #Santana is 149-127 with a career ERA of 4.09 (1-1 ERA) in 387 games (384 starts). #He has been called up to two #All-Star #Games, in 2008 with the #Angels and in 2017 with the #Twins. #However, since 2018, #Santana has made just eight major league starts, with an 8.53 ERA between the #Twins and the #White #Sox, who released him in late #April 2019.

#Later that season, he pitched in the #Mets’ minor league system. #After not participating in the major or minor league in 2020, he had an ERA of 2.61 and 25 strikeouts in 20.2 innings (five starts) for the #Tigres del #Licey in his country this winter.
