Citizen participation is important for strengthening democracy

#Zacatecas, #Zac.-We have the elements of planning, the impartial solvency that characterizes us and sufficient independence for citizens to trust the electoral institutions, in the organization of the #Electoral #Process 2020 – 2021, said the #President of the #General #Council of the #Electoral #Institute of the #State of #Zacatecas, #Mtro. #Virgilio #Rivera #Delgadillo, during the signing of the #Joint #Work #Plan between IEEZ and INE, for the promotion of citizen participation.

The IEEZ #President #Counselor stressed that in the #Zacatecas 2020 – 2021 #Electoral #Process, citizens will be an important element of participation, since they will be the ones who will cast their vote, who count the votes and the main watchdogs of the electoral process. #That is why the citizens and we will do things well.

#Now we are coordinating with the INE to plan an adequate construction of citizenship, which will lead us to ensure that in those parts where there are difficulties there is sufficient awareness to vote, so that at the same time spaces for dialogue are built, where the local and national reality, and the way in which it must be resolved so that those who come to power take society into account.

#For his part, the #Executive #Member of the #National #Institute in #Zacatecas, #Mtro. #Matías #Chiquito Díaz de #León, stressed that the only solution for a democratic system in which we are in the process of construction is the participation of citizens.

#Democracy is so important, he said, that we cannot leave it only to the democrats, we must all integrate ourselves as citizens into the electoral processes and make a better determination for the exercise of power, and not leave it alone in the exercise of the vote, but accompany the exercise of power.

The transition in the exercise of power is resolved, the electoral processes are effective, generate confidence and give certainty in the electoral results; The problem now is not the electoral processes, but they must be strengthened, the problem now lies in how power is exercised, so men and women must get involved in public affairs so that the exercise of power is virtuous.

The #Joint #Work #Plan between the #National #Electoral #Institute and the #Electoral #Institute of the #State of #Zacatecas, for the promotion of citizen participation in the 2020-2021 #Concurrent #Electoral #Process, aims to generate knowledge and develop competencies for the exercise of citizenship between the #Mexican population between 18 and 30 years of age, within the framework of the 2020-2021 #Concurrent #Electoral #Process.

#In addition to implementing electoral education actions in order to provide information and pay for the development of their attitudes, values and critical thinking, among citizens in relation to the electoral process.

#As well as opening spaces for dialogue and demands, with the purpose of providing clarity on the conditions in which the right to vote can be exercised, establishing the pertinent health measures.

#Among the actions to be carried out are, among others, the following: #Proposed actions to be carried out: #App “#My first vote”. #This activity takes as a reference, first of all, the proposal suggested by the “Samara #Center for #Democracy” (#Canada) called #Citizen #Literacy (civic literacy).

#It is committed to the ability of the voters themselves to process, discern and appropriate truthful information about the political environment, based on four basic dimensions:

#Use of the tools, skills and individual knowledge that allow democracy to work; knowledge of government institutions and how they work; awareness of everyday problems, understanding how to take political action to achieve a cause, and careful consumption of the media on or off the internet. #In order to position and implement the tool, strategic alliances with educational institutions will be used to promote its use.

A second line of action is called #Informed #Voting #Drive. The #Informed #Vote initiative is led by the #Faculty of #Political and #Social #Sciences of the #National #Autonomous #University of #Mexico. #This project began its operation since the federal election of 2015 and, as of 2018, the #National #Electoral #Institute participates in its development. #Although it has varied in each edition, #Informed #Vote has two pillars:

#Census opinion study of the candidates. #With the support of an #Academic #Committee, determined by the #Faculty of #Political and #Social #Sciences of the UNAM, a questionnaire is developed for those interested in a popularly elected position. #Subsequently, the response of all the candidates is collected and their results are made available on the site. #It is important to note that citizens can answer the same questionnaire and find out about the candidates’ responses.

#Civic education materials and events: They have varied in each edition; however, television programs, capsules, digital courses and follow-up on social networks have been developed.

#Also, it is projected what refers to #Digital #Civic #Tools. #It consists, on the one hand, in the development and distribution of digital recreational materials such as infographics, videos, cartoons, comics, audios, etc., referring to the electoral process. These materials may be disseminated on social networks, as well as shared among strategic allies. There will also be activations in social networks of institutional campaigns such as “#Do you know what happens if you don’t vote?” or “#What sanitary measures will there be when going to the box?”. #In addition, it includes the publication of the web page within the official site of the INE, in which all these materials may be disseminated.

#Another line of action is called #Citizenship to #Dialogue. #Within the framework of the 2020-2021 electoral processes, a series of digital citizen deliberation meetings will be implemented at the national level (with the coordination of the INE) and in the states, which will consist of holding events in which they will be exhibited. , ideas, proposals and issues between political actors, electoral authorities and citizens, which will be transmitted via streaming, through various platforms and digital media.

#As well as with regard to citizen training. The initiative consists of identifying people interested in promoting citizen participation through participation and implementation of voter education processes in their communities. #To do this, first, a call will be issued and then select and train a total of 120 people. #Later, they will be accompanied in the design of specific actions regarding electoral education, according to specific local contexts. #Subsequently, the implementation of the initiatives will be followed up to close an evaluation process.

#This activity becomes important within the framework of the electoral process because, after the elections, it is necessary to have citizens who follow up on the candidates who are winners and manage to influence public agendas to improve their communities. #That is, to enhance the role of citizens beyond elections, always taking into account suffrage as a starting point. #Consequently, the training of people is required to link the electoral process, the campaign proposals, with citizen surveillance of the elected representatives.

#During the signing of the #Joint #Work #Plan between the #National #Electoral #Institute and the #Electoral #Institute of the #State of #Zacatecas, for the promotion of citizen participation in the #Concurrent #Electoral #Process 2020 – 2021, the #Electoral #Counselor #Arturo #Sosa #Carlos, #President of the #Electoral #Training and #Civic #Culture #Commission; as well as the #Vocal of #Electoral #Training and #Civic #Education of the INE in #Zacatecas, #Lic. #Samuel #Esparza #Castillo, and the #Executive #Director of #Electoral #Training and #Civic #Culture of IEEZ, #Lic. #Jesús #Guillermo #Flores #Tejada.
