Brazil plans to vaccinate against COVID-19 in mid-January 2021

The #Brazilian #Ministry of #Health announced this #Tuesday that, “in the best of cases”, the vaccination process in the country would begin in mid-January 2021 and has insisted again that only those vaccines that have #Endorsement of the #National #Health #Surveillance #Agency (#Anvisa).

“In the best of cases, we would be starting the vaccination from #January 20. #In the medium term, between #January 20 and #February 10. #And in the long term, starting on #February 10 ”, The executive secretary of the #Ministry, #Elcio #Franco, has explained.

“We need manufacturers to obtain #Anvisa’s registration, and to deliver enough doses to be distributed. (…) The #Ministry of #Health has done its part, we have made the plan, we are ready for this great day, but we need the laboratories to request registration “#Franco has insisted.

The words of the executive secretary of the #Health portfolio come after the pharmaceutical company #Pfizer explained on #Monday that #Anvisa had requested a series of “specific analyzes” that were slowing down the process.

“The agency’s conditions require specific analysis for #Brazil, which means more preparation time”, said the company through a statement that some #Brazilian media have echoed.

“The emergency use authorization also asks for details of the quantity of doses and the schedule that will be used in the country, points that can only be defined once the definitive contract is drawn up”, alleged the company, which remarked that “#It is interested in selling to #Brazil, but the process is slower.”

#That same day, the president of #Brazil, #Jair #Bolsonaro, distanced himself from the critics who say he is pressuring #Anvisa and questioned whether the pharmaceutical companies wanted to sell their vaccines to the country, since the agency had not yet received requests in this regard.

“Brazil has 210 million inhabitants, a huge market for consumers of anything. #Shouldn’t the labs be interested? #Why, then, do they not present documentation in #Anvisa? #People say I have to go after them. #Nerd. #Whoever wants to sell, come forward ”, #Bolsonaro defended.

#In that sense, #Franco’s statements have also gone, who assured this #Tuesday that while #Pfizer “I don’t want to submit to #Anvisa’s rules, I can’t take her by the arm and take her to #Anvisa to deliver her reports.

“We are not opposed to any dialogue with #Pfizer. #We have not created any difficulties, we only strive in security to request registration for authorization for emergency use ”, has said.

#On the other hand, #Anvisa has announced that it has received a report from a #Brazilian laboratory to begin clinical studies of the #Russian #Sputnik V vaccine, the previous step before its possible registration if the tests are satisfactory.

#So far, there are four clinical studies of the vaccine in #Brazil, that of #AstraZeneca-Oxford, that of #Coronavac, developed by the #Butantan #Institute of #Sao #Paulo in collaboration with the #Chinese pharmaceutical company #Sinovac, and the #American ones from #Pfizer and #Johnson & #Johnson.

#Meanwhile, the #Ministry of #Health confirmed this #Tuesday another 58,718 positives and 1,111 more deaths, representing a total of 7,563,551 accumulated cases and 192,681 deaths from the coronavirus.
