A former top aide to #Vice #President #Mike #Pence warned on #Monday that she feared violence could erupt in #Washington DC on #January 6, the day #Congress is scheduled to meet to finalize the 2020 presidential election results formally.

#Olivia #Troye, who has been a vocal critic of the #Trump administration ever since leaving the #White #House in #August, told MSNBC, on #Monday, that she was “very concerned” that there would be violence on the day “because the president himself is encouraging it.”

“#This is what he does. #He tweets, he incites it, and he gets followers and supporters to behave in this manner, and they believe they are being patriots because they’re supporting the president,” she said, according to MSNBC.

“#In terms of his legacy, this is a president who calls himself the president of law and order, and we have seen anything but that,” #Troye continued. “#We had a bombing on #Christmas #Day, we have had protests in the streets, this is all out of control. #If that’s the legacy he wants, he certainly has it.”

#Earlier this month, #Trump – who has still not formally conceded to #President-elect #Biden – promised his supporters there would be a “wild” rally in the capital on the day of the #Congress vote.

#Businesses in downtown DC have already announced that they will be shutting their doors on the day out of concern for their staff and guests.

“#While we cannot control what happens outside of the hotel, we are taking additional steps to protect the safety of our visitors, guests, and employees,” #Hotel #Harrington said on #Facebook, according to the #Independent.

The hotel is popular among #Trump supporters and far-right group #Proud #Boys.

#Troye, who endorsed #President-elect #Joe #Biden in the #November election, was #Pence’s former homeland security, counterterrorism, and coronavirus adviser. #She has previously slammed #Trump’s pandemic response.

The #January 6 #Congress vote is considered a formality in which members of the #Senate and #House approve the long-decided count of electoral votes.

#Trump lost to #Joe #Biden by 306 electoral votes to 232, a result confirmed by the #Electoral #College on #December 14.

#Several #Republican lawmakers, including #Alabama congressman #Mo #Brooks and #Representative-elect #Marjorie #Taylor #Greene of #Georgia, have already said they intend to challenge the results, citing baseless voter fraud claims.

#Trump has refused to concede to #Biden, repeatedly pushing baseless claims challenging the integrity of the result. #He told aides earlier this month that he might refuse to leave the #White #House on inauguration day, according to CNN.
