The top ten Miami Hurricanes in the Cheez-It Bowl


The #Miami #Hurricanes faced plenty of adversity and fought hard against #Oklahoma #State in the #Cheez-It #Bowl on #Tuesday night, but ultimately UM fell short in a comeback effort and lost to the #Cowboys, 37-34.

#Miami (8-3) was forced to play the majority of the game without star quarterback D’#Eriq #King, who left the game in the second quarter with an apparent injury to his right knee.

#With the #Hurricanes down 21-7, back-up N’#Kosi #Perry entered the game and led a comeback effort that got UM within one score on multiple occasions during the second half, but #Miami couldn’t find a way to finish the game.

#Oklahoma #State quarterback #Spencer #Sanders had a strong showing, throwing for 305 yards and four touchdowns with receiver #Brennan #Pressley catching six passes for 118 yards and three touchdowns.

#Miami’s defense allowed 418 yards of total offense.

10. OL ZION NELSON – 68.2 GRADE

#Nelson earned a 75.7 pass blocking grade and a 62.0 run blocking grade from PFF, who credited him with allowing only two quarterback pressures and zero sacks on the day.

9. DE JAHFARI HARVEY – 69.5 GRADE

#Snaps: 64

#It was a solid first start for #Harvey, who was the most consistent edge player for the #Hurricanes during the bowl. #Harvey officially finished the game with 2.5 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble. PFF credited #Harvey with two quarterback pressures on 39 pass rushing snaps and received a 67.6 run defense grade.

8. QB N’KOSI PERRY 70.0 GRADE

#Perry did a nice job coming in as the back-up and providing a spark to an offense that needed some life. #He finished the game completing 19-of-34 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for ten yards during about 35 minutes of work. PFF graded #Perry as a 78.0 passer and had him completing 77 percent of his passes when he wasn’t under pressure. #Perry completed two deep shots and he would have completed two more if it weren’t for some drops by the wide receivers.

7. DT JARED HARRISON-HUNTE – 71.6 GRADE

#Snaps: 44

#Harrison-Hunte showed impressive fortitude, playing with an elbow injury that he sustained late in the year. #Harrison-Hunte officially accounted for one tackle and half a tackle for loss. PFF credited him with two quarterback pressures and a 74.2 run defense grade. #He did not miss a tackle in the game.

6. LB SAM BROOKS – 72.4 GRADE

#Snaps: 37

#Brooks finished the game with 2.5 tackles. #He impressed PFF with his run defense, earning a 79.0 run defense grade and a 76.5 tackling grade during the game. #Brooks did not miss a tackle, according to PFF.

5. TO BREVIN JORDAN – 73.9 DEGREES

#Snaps: 73

#Jordan was terrific in the #Cheez-It #Bowl, catching eight of his 12 targets for 96 yards and two touchdowns. #Jordan averaged an impressive 7.5 yards after catch per reception and forced four missed tackles when he caught the ball in space. #Jordan converted seven first downs during the course of the game.

4. LB WAYNMON STEED – 76.2 GRADE

#Snaps: 51

#Steed played the most snaps of any linebacker, finishing the game with 1.5 tackles and half a tackle for loss. #He impressed PFF with his run defense, earning an 80.9 run defense grade and a 79.9 tackling grade. #According to PFF, he did not miss a tackle.

3. RB CAM’RON HARRIS – 78.0 GRADE

#Snaps: 32

#Harris finished the game with 52 rushing yards and one touchdown on six carries while also catching two passes for 38 yards. PFF gave him an 81.3 receiving grade thanks to the impressive catch he made along the sideline. #As a runner, #Harris graded out with a 70.2 grade and averaged an impressive nine yards per carry after contact.

2. LB COREY FLAGG – 79.0 GRADE

#Snaps: 41

#Flagg finished the game with 2.5 tackles and graded out as the best run defender, according to PFF, earning an 84.9 run defense grade and a 77.5 tackling grade. #Flagg and starting middle linebacker #Bradley #Jennings #Jr. split the snaps fairly evenly.

1. DT NESTA JADE SILVERA – 79.2 GRADE

#Snaps: 50

#Silvera had a dominant stretch during the second and third quarters and it is reflected in his PFF grade. #Silvera finished the game with 2.5 tackles and one tackle for loss. #He graded out with a 71.4 run defense grade, a 75.2 tackling grade, and 78.7 pass rushing grade. PFF credits #Silvera with one quarterback pressure.
