Dispute at Daimler about job cuts intensifies


        In the corona crisis, the dispute at Daimler about personnel savings escalates.  "The tone in the talks is getting rougher and is putting the cooperation with the management to the test," said the company's general works council on Monday. Porth accused the works council of blocking savings contributions. “In order to continue to pursue our common goal of avoiding redundancies, we need significantly more courtesy from the works council,” said Porth. Otherwise, layoffs may occur, even if they are excluded in an agreement until the end of 2029. The personnel manager called for a reduction in working hours with a corresponding reduction in wages. In an interview with the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” (Monday edition), the head of the general works council, Michael Brecht, declined wages and cut Christmas bonuses. As one possibility, Brecht referred to a reduction in working hours, as had already been agreed in the 2008/2009 economic crisis. However, from the works council’s point of view, there must be partial wage compensation for a one-year reduction in working hours. By the end of the year, the company wanted to find double structures that could be dismantled, said Brecht.
