Gathering of people who do not believe in COVID-19

While Quebec recorded 164 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, hundreds of conspirators who do not believe in the existence of the virus were preparing to celebrate all weekend in Wickham, in Center-du-Quebec.

This gathering is deemed illegal by public health, but so far tolerated by the Sûrete du Quebec.

More than 500 people are expected to attend the Manifestation en Chants event held on the Verger Blanchard grounds in Wickham, near Drummondville. On the menu, music shows, camping and speeches.

“We are a group of citizens who want to campaign for their rights and freedoms. We want to prove that it is possible to come together without getting sick. It’s a scam, ”says Mario Roy, one of the event’s organizers.

“We have been made aware of this event in the last few days, it is an illegal gathering. We have notified the Sûrete du Quebec, which has all the powers to intervene, ”indicated Dr. Caroline Marcoux-Huard from the public health department of Mauricie – Center-du-Quebec.

A Sûrete du Quebec patrol vehicle arrived on site a little before 2 p.m. Friday. After a short discussion with the organizer, the police left the scene.

“We have not received the order to leave and have not received a statement of offense. We respect the distancing measures and we continue, ”says Mario Roy.

The latter also invites the participants in the demonstration to sign a criminal complaint that he intends to file against Francois Legault and Horacio Arruda. He accuses them among other things of criminal negligence and forcible confinement. In the Prime Minister’s office, we preferred not to comment on this possible complaint.
