Jordan Henderson named Premier League player of the year by journalists

Jordan Henderson was named “FWA Player of the Year” 2020. This prestigious award is presented following the votes of journalists from the Football Writers’ Association.

Liverpool captain succeeds Raheem Sterling (Manchester City). It was particularly preferred to Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) which was among the favorites.

The Liverpool of Jurgen Klopp flew over the season in England. Henderson led his team to a title that has been awaited since 1990 by all the Red people of Liverpool. The English club also won the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

Henderson in full light

Shadow worker, driving force behind champions’ midfield, Hendo is a leader by example. A player who pulls his teammates in his wake. With 4 goals and 5 assists, it does not have the statistical impact of Salah, Mane or Alexander-Arnold, nor the international aura of roc Van Dijk.

He’s not the most bling-bling player in the Kloppo but his role in the incredible season of Reds is essential and indisputable.

We wouldn’t be where we are without him“, insists Trent Alexander-Arnold, without him.”He always thinks of the team first: neither of us does this more for Liverpool than Hendo.

And even when it comes to receiving an individual trophy, the England midfielder puts the team ahead. “I accept this award on behalf of this whole team, because without them I would not have been able to receive this honor. These guys made me a better player – a better leader and a better person. I hope that those who voted for me, did so in part to recognize the merit of the whole team. The individual rewards are special and I treasure this one. But an individual trophy without the collective achievement wouldn’t mean so much to me“.

Only one Belgian appears in the lists of the winners of this trophy: Eden Hazard. Henderson is the twelfth Reds player to receive this award since 1948.
