UEFA held this Friday in Nyon the draw for the unprecedented ‘Final 8’ of the Champions League, a single-match format to be played in Lisbon (12-23 August), as a way to close a 2019-20 season marked by the break several months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Whites will travel to Manchester to try to overcome the 2-1 that City achieved at the Santiago Bernabeu. Juventus, meanwhile, must also turn around an unfavorable result, the 1-0 that Lyon achieved in France.
Atletico-Leipzig and PSG-Atalanta
The other two quarter crossings are already confirmed; with the Atletico de Madrid, who eliminated in eighths the current champion Liverpool, playing before the rookie at this point Leipzig, and the Paris Saint–Germain before another team that comes to this round for the first time, the Atalanta.
In case of victory against the Italian team, Neymar’s PSG would face the winner of Atletico-Leipzig. In the other part of the table the winners of Lyon or Juventus-Real Madrid or City and Barcelona or Naples-Bayern Munich or Chelsea would cross.
The ‘Final 8’ will be held in two Lisbon stadiums (Sporting and Benfica) and behind closed doors, as UEFA announced on Thursday, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and after the outbreak of recent weeks in the Portuguese capital.
