Trabzonspor footballers will not play for the Champions League next season. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the verdict of the European Football Union (UEFA), which excluded Trabzonspor from European cups for a year.
The reason for the exclusion of Trabzonspor is a breach of financial fair play. The club was in condition and UEFA punished it with an annual start ban in June.
According to her, Trabzonspor did not fulfill its 2016 commitment and in the financial year 2019 its expenses exceeded revenues. Instead of Trabzonspor, Besiktas Istanbul, who finished third in the last season of the Turkish league last season, will present itself in the 2nd preliminary round of the Champions League.
UEFA has introduced rules on financial fair play due to a significant increase in the number of indebted clubs. A complex set of rules based on clubs not having significantly higher expenses than income also limits the ability of wealthy owners to invest their own money in the club.
He was expelled from the Manchester City European Cups for two years in February this year due to a serious violation of the rules of financial fair play. However, the English big club subsequently succeeded at CAS with an appeal, and the Champions League will not miss it next year either.
