#Senegal : The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Senegal decided on Wednesday July 15 to postpone to 2026 the next Youth Olympic Games, initially scheduled in Dakar in 2022, due to the pandemic of new coronavirus.
“The postponement of Dakar 2022 allows the IOC, the National Olympic Committees and the international federations to better plan their activities, which were strongly affected by the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (to 2021), by the consecutive postponements of other international sporting events, and the consequences of the global health crisis on operational and financial aspects, “wrote the IOC in a press release.”I would like to repeat that the IOC retains all my support for the organization of the Youth Games, postponed to 2026,” said Senegalese president Macky Sall, quoted in the press release.

The Youth Olympic Games, reserved for athletes aged 14 to 18, have been organized every two years since the first edition in 2010 in Singapore, alternating between Summer and Winter Games, like the classic Olympic Games.
The last edition took place in Lausanne (Switzerland) from January 9 to 22. With the postponement of Dakar to 2026, the first scheduled Olympic event in Africa, the next Youth Olympic Games will therefore once again be devoted to winter sports and will take place in 2024 in the Gangwon province of South Korea.
