61-year-old Aargau in the Bernese Oberland trapped under rock – Switzerland

(DPO) According to current knowledge, on Friday around 4.15 p.m. three mountain hikers coming from the Strahleggpass had been on the way shortly before the Aarbiwak, when for some inexplicable reasons the rock came loose above the group. One of the men was hit by the rock, trapped under a boulder and seriously injured, the regional prosecutor’s office in Oberland and the cantonal police in Bern said on Saturday.

The 61-year-old Swiss from the canton of Aargau was immediately looked after by other mountain walkers until the alarmed emergency services arrived. Despite the efforts of a Rega team and members of the Swiss Alpine Rescue Service, the man died of his injuries at the scene of the accident. The two companions of the man were flown out unharmed, the message goes on.

The Cantonal Police of Berne has started an investigation into the exact course of events and the circumstances of the accident. In addition to the police and Rega, a helicopter from Air-Glaciers and members of the fire service were also deployed.
