Mexico has registered a new record of coronavirus cases in one day this Saturday, accounting for more than 9,500 infections, bringing the total in the country to 434,193.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Health, 47,472 people have lost their lives in the country due to the pandemic, an increase of 784 deaths compared to Friday’s figures.

The Mexican director of Epidemiology, Jose Luis Alomia, has reported that a total of 284,847 patients have recovered after passing COVID-19.

Regarding hospital occupation, he has reported that in total the country there are 30,712 general beds to treat the disease, of which 16,852 are available and 13,860 occupied, so the occupation is estimated at 45 percent.

In this context, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, has considered that the issue of the epidemiological traffic light – the system that governs the restart of activities in the country – should not be “politicized” and has called for unity against the coronavirus.

Several governors had asked for the resignation of the undersecretary of Prevention and Promotion of Health, Hugo Lopez-Gatell, for his action in this regard.

“What is very important is that there is unitary attention to the pandemic, that it is not politicized and that work is really done on the issue of traffic lights, there may be discrepancies, but I think that the work that the Secretariat has been developing is very important of Health “, he assured, reports the local newspaper ‘El Universal’.

Mexico was positioned this Friday as the third country with the most deaths due to coronavirus worldwide after surpassing the United Kingdom and behind the United States and Brazil.

Lopez-Gatell updated the epidemiological traffic light and reported that 16 entities would remain red and 16 orange.
