The 2020-2021 school year for basic and upper secondary education will begin on August 24 at the national level in the distance modality, through Officially valid radio and television broadcasts, supported by textbooks and booklets. The enrollment and re-enrollment of students in basic and upper secondary education will take place between August 6 and 21 in entities where this process has not yet started. An extraordinary period will be established from August 24 to September 11 for all students who must register changes of entity, school or school year, as well as for those who suffer complications due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Children and young people who are in a continuous school cycle, that is, who will pass from one year to another within the same educational level (preschool, primary, secondary, high school) will have automatic re-enrollment, as explained by Marcos Burcio Mujica, undersecretary of Basic Education of the SEP.
If the student attended the immediately previous grade in the same school in which they will remain during the 2020-2021 cycle, the address of the educational institution, whether public or private, will automatically re-enroll of the student before the SEP. The process will be carried out with the verification of the student’s academic background and, in principle, without the need to request documentation to mothers, fathers or guardians, rather than updating personal contact information, according to the Federal Educational Authority in Mexico City.
Registrations and re-registrations that will not be done automatically They are those in which the student passes from one educational level to another (from preschool to primary and from primary to secondary), also if there is a change of school or federal entity of affiliation.
For students who completed their secondary studies and will go on to high school, the Undersecretary for Basic Education reported that The entrance exam will be held between August 25 and 28 in those states where it has not already been done.
The dissemination of accurate information about the requirements for enrollment procedures at school levels is the responsibility of the representation of the Ministry of Public Education in the federal entities, such as the Federal Delegations.
