the average number of infections now stands at 465 per day


The average number of coronavirus infections continues to rise and has risen to 465,4 per day between 23 and 29 July, indicates Sunday the Institute of Public Health Sciensano in the data update of its dashboard. This represents a 78% increase over the previous week.

The number of infections in Belgium now stands at 69.402, against 68,751 on Saturday.

The number of new cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants follows the same upward trend. For the period spanning two weeks, and until July 29 inclusive, 44.3 cases were identified (against 40.7 Saturday).

Increase in average hospitalizations and deaths per day

The number of hospital admissions is also progressing with an average of 25 per day (23 Saturday), in 84% increase compared to the previous week. Sciensano also reports an average of 2.7 deaths per day.

Since the start of the epidemic, 9,845 people lost their lives as a result of Covid-19 in Belgium.
