The number of new cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants is on the rise, as is the average number of infections and hospitalizations … Nevertheless, the reproduction rate of the virus has fallen below 1.

The average number of coronavirus infections rose to 535.4 per day between July 26 and August 1, according to Sciensano. This represents an increase of 58% over the previous week. The number of infections in Belgium now stands at 70,648, against 70,314 on Tuesday.

The number of hospital admissions is now 22.7 per day (22 Tuesday), an increase of 27% compared to the previous week.
Sciensano also reports an average of 2.4 deaths per day. Since the start of the epidemic, 9,852 people have lost their lives as a result of Covid-19.
