The Upper Austria Olympic Center will host the new federal base of the Austrian Judo Association (OJV) from November. Around 30 judoka will then train in Linz for up to 20 weeks a year.

Upper Austria. The new competitive sports concept of the OJV provides that the best Austrian judoka meet regularly and train together. The Olympic Center Upper Austria on the Linzer Gugl was chosen as the new location for this.

“We are very pleased that the Austrian Judo Association has made the decision to install the new federal base in the Olympic Center Upper Austria. This is also a recognition of the previous achievements of the regional association and the team around regional trainer Klaus-Peter Stollberg,” says Wirtschafts – and Sports Councilor Markus Achleitner (OVP).

He was a guest in the building on the Linzer Gugl on September 16. A separate judo hall with two permanent competition areas is already available there.

Accommodation is provided for the athletes

The Olympic Center and the Talent Center also offer support in the fields of physiotherapy, massage, sports science, nutrition and psychology. Accommodation for up to 20 athletes during the training stays and office space for three trainers are also available. Judo should be practiced from Tuesday to Thursday from November. Around 30 judoka will train in Upper Austria for up to 20 weeks a year. This will mean a different situation than in the past few months, in which Corona-related many athletes trained alone and coaches held video units.

The Olympic center is being completely renovated

“If we want to develop further, then in addition to the internal competition between clubs and bases, we need more cooperation within Austria,” explains the President of the Austrian Judo Association, Martin Poiger.

A general renovation of the Olympic Center Upper Austria will also take place in the coming year. For example, the changing rooms, the gym and office space are to be renewed. There are currently trainer positions advertised for the new federal base. An additional trainer for the elite sector in Linz is also planned.
