Coronavirus in Mexico: 12,406 new cases and 1,052 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours

The #Ministry of #Health announced, this #Wednesday, #December 30, 2020, the record of 12,406 new infections, as well as 1,052 deaths caused by COVID-19, disease caused by the #Sars-Cov-2 virus, in the country.

#That way, until the day 214 of the new normal, have been recorded 1,413,935 accumulated confirmed cases and 124,897 deaths caused by coronavirus disease. The health authorities also reported the existence of 38,819 suspected cases with possibility of outcome, as well as a total of 1,779,053 negatives and 3,596,935 people studied since the first case registered in the country. #On the other hand, to this day 1,066,771 people have been discharged after recovering from the disease.

#Additionally, the estimate of 74,737 (5%) patients who presented symptoms of the disease in the last 14 days. #In that way the percentage increased one point compared to the report of #December 29, 2020, when 70,203 people active for COVID-19 were estimated, which represented 4%. The data is relevant, since they are those who can potentially contribute to the transmission of the virus.

#According to the figures presented by #Dr. #Ruy López #Ridaura, #General #Director of the #National #Center for #Preventive #Programs and #Disease #Control, the #Network of SARI (#Serious #Acute #Respiratory #Infection) #Beds reported the 50% availability in general beds for the care of patients diagnosed with COVID-19. #That is to say, that of the 29,725 beds without mechanical respiratory support installed throughout the republic, only 15,011 have been occupied, which is equivalent to 50 percent. #In that way, there is still the 14,714 beds available general.

#On the other hand, regarding beds destined to intensive care for patients diagnosed with respiratory disease, the report presented a 57% availability, which equates to 5,755 free mechanical ventilator beds. #Thus, of the 10,184 beds dedicated to the care of critically ill patients, 4,429 are occupied, that is, 43% of the total nationwide.

#Currently, the hospital occupation nationwide has registered the care of 19,440 patients. #In that way #Until #December 29, 2020, the figure was 7 points above the maximum occupancy reached (18,223 patients hospitalized for COVID symptoms). #In this sense, López #Ridaura stressed that the presence of #Mexico #City, the #State of #Mexico, #Hidalgo and #Guanajuato is an indicator of the situation that the #Megalopolis is going through.

#Regarding the new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, López #Ridaura indicated that lhe new variant, whose origin has been located in the #United #Kingdom, already has more than 23 mutations. #However, so far, none have been presented in #Mexico. #He also stated that the new strain is already circulating in about 30 countries. #In #America it has only been detected in #Canada, #Chile and the #United #States, in the state of #Colorado.

The new strain has been confirmed to be significantly more transmissible than all the previous ones. #Similarly, in #Mexico 12 samples of people diagnosed with COVID-19 and who traveled to #Europe in recent days to track the possible transit of the new variant in the country.
