U.S #This #Wednesday registered 3,927 deaths from covid-19 in 24 hours, a new record for the country most mourned by the pandemic, according to figures from #Johns #Hopkins #University.

The new record brings to 341,845 the number of deaths from the new coronavirus in the world’s leading power, according to a review made by AFP every day at 8:30 p.m. local of the #Johns #Hopkins figures, which are updated continuously.

#With 189,671 new cases in 24 hours, the #United #States is also rapidly approaching the 20 million mark for contaminations, having passed 19 million on #Sunday.

#India, second in number of infections, is far behind, with 10.2 million cases.

The #United #States has faced a dramatic rebound in the epidemic since the fall, exacerbated by the big family #Thanksgiving celebration in late #November and which the end-of-the-year celebrations should amplify further.

#Famed #American immunologist #Anthony #Fauci said #Sunday that the worst of the pandemic was yet to come.

The vaccination campaign, for which about 2.8 million people had already received a first dose on #Wednesday, will not mitigate the current trend of increasing the number of cases.
