Bills receive clearance to have fans in playoffs

#New #York #Governor #Andrew #Como announced that #Buffalo #Stadium will be open on a limited basis

ORCHARD PARK – #When the #Buffalo #Bills host their first playoff game in 25 years, they will do so in front of a live audience.

#New #York #Governor #Andrew #Cuomo announced #Wednesday that #Bills #Stadium will be open to a limited number of fans for the playoffs.. #Bills games had been closed to fans for the entire 2020 regular season as part of #New #York #State’s COVID-19 protocols regarding professional sports.

The plan allows 6,772 fans and attendees have to register a negative COVID-19 test before they are allowed entry. The team will work with the state health department to conduct further contact tracing.

#Fans will maintain social distancing throughout the stadium and are required to wear face masks at all times. #Fans who do not comply will be expelled.

#Dr. #Howard #Zucker, the #New #York health commissioner, said last week that this is “a model of public health that has never been done before in the country,” describing it as a “demonstration project.” #Cuomo hopes that this model can provide an example of opening future mass events to the public.

#Bills owners #Terry and #Kim #Pegula joined #Cuomo for the announcement.

#About 6,200 tickets will be available for purchase #Thursday for season-long ticket owners who decided to purchase tickets earlier this year. #Tickets are not expected to be available to the general public.

#If the #Bills advance to host a #Divisional #Round game, fans will also be allowed to attend. #Fans attending the #Wild #Card #Round game will not be allowed to purchase tickets to the divisional game..

#Fans must pay for their COVID-19 tests, which will take place in #Bills #Stadium #Lot 4 at a “reduced cost” of $ 63. The cost of the tests will be included in the price of the ticket.

The stadium gates will open two hours before the game with staggered entry times for fans to minimize crowding, which was one of #Cuomo’s biggest concerns throughout the process. #All concession stands will offer the same products and will not handle cash.

#Previous meetings will remain prohibited. #Cuomo recognized the importance of the #Bills hosting their first playoff game since 1995 to the western #New #York community, but he also asked the community to remain vigilant.

“#For all #Bills fans, please all take these steps seriously,” he said. “#We have advanced on the COVID virus in recent weeks. The numbers are down, we want to keep them low.”

“#Our goal here is to support our team in every way possible,” said #Terry #Pegula. “I’ll tell them to be safe, to be smart, and most of all, to be loud.”
