Oneida County reports record-high 317 positive COVID tests in one day


#Oneida #County reported its highest number of positive test results in a single day on #Wednesday, with hospitalizations also at a new record high.

There were 317 new positive cases reported, and a total of 181 people in the hospital, with 167 of them admitted between #Mohawk #Valley #Health #System and #Rome #Memorial #Hospital. The other 14 are in hospitals outside of the county.

The #Mohawk #Valley region has had the highest positivity rate in the state for several days, with the rate sitting at 9.36% #Wednesday.

#Oneida #County #Executive #Anthony #Picente is reminding people to avoid gatherings this weekend, to help stop the spread.

“These are concerning numbers that reinforce the need for everyone to remain diligent in following the health and safety guidelines we continue to stress each day. #It should also serve as a reminder of how important it is to be smart this #New #Year’s #Eve and #Day and to avoid gathering with those outside of your household to prevent further spread of this deadly virus,” said #Picente.

#Nearly 12,000 people have tested positive in #Oneida #County since the start of the pandemic, and nearly 5,000 have recovered. There are currently 5,231 active cases.

There are more than 7,500 people in quarantine or isolation.

A total of 221 COVID-related deaths have been reported.
