Hair loss is a problem that affects millions of people in the world. Its reason is the lack of vitamin B12 in the body, which is key to hair growth, says Philip Kingsley, a British expert on hair care.
Among the functions of this vitamin is the maintenance of the health of erythrocytes, which supply oxygen to tissues, including the pilot follicles. When the body lacks oxygen, the body’s priorities will be to transport it to vital organs. Therefore, less oxygen reaches the hair follicles, which are not crucial for maintaining life. Kingsley says that “without oxygen, the hair follicles stop working as they should, and the hair can fall out.”
Sometimes vitamin B12 deficiency occurs when the body is unable to absorb it from food, because of a deficiency of vitamin D in food, or because of taking certain drugs that block the absorption of vitamin B12. Vegans may be included in the risk group, he says.
Taking B12 supplements can be implemented to have sufficient amounts of B12, Kingsley suggested.
