The UK is leaving the #European #Union tonight with a 1264-page deal that has cost sweat and tears to pass, but contains absurd passages like the one recommending the use of “modern email software packages, including #Mozilla #Mail and #Netscape. #Communicator ”.

#If you are too young and those names do not sound familiar, it is because the #Mozilla #Mail email client was replaced by #Mozilla #Thunderbird in 2004 and the #Netscape #Communicator suite, which included the famous #Netscape 4.x browser, was discontinued in 2008, when the last stable version of the software it was six years old. #This was what #Netscape #Navigator looked like 4.0:

The result of a treacherous copy and paste, the passage is nothing more than a funny anecdote compared to the page 921 of the agreement, which states that the “open standard s / MIME as an extension of the de facto standard for SMTP email will be implemented to encrypt messages containing DNA profile information” and adds that “the AES (#Advanced #Encryption #Standard) encryption algorithm will be applied with a 256-bit key length and RSA with a 1024-bit key length for symmetric and asymmetric encryption, respectively”, in addition to the “SHA hash algorithm -1″.

#As crypto expert #Bill #Buchanan explains in a post de #Medium, recommend RSA and SHA-1 for encryption of biometric information would have been a good recommendation a decade ago, but those algorithms they no longer meet modern safety standards. “The use of 1024-bit RSA keys is not recommended as there are great risks in producing a false signature,” says #Buchanan. #And #Google researchers have shown that the use of SHA-1 signatures is flawed. #Today, we would look to use 2048-bit (2K) SHA-256 RSA keys. #You will have a hard time finding a website on the internet that uses RSA 1K and / or SHA-1 keys to test tor identity ”.

The font of the text appears to be a rulemento de la UE de 2008 who uses the same tips. #It seems unlikely that it can be fixed. The agreement has already been approved and the #United #Kingdom will leave the #European #Union with the entry of 2021.
