604 5th year high school students were shortlisted in the Women in Science Scholarship contest


A total of 604 female schoolchildren in the 5th year of secondary school were shortlisted to apply for the #Women #Science #Scholarship contest, through which 150 scholarships will be awarded to study, starting in 2021, university careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. #This was reported by the #National #Program for #Scholarships and #Educational #Loans (#Pronabec) of the #Ministry of #Education.

#In this way, the shortlisted ones, who in the pre-selection stage of the contest proved high academic performance, now have the opportunity to go to the second stage and apply for one of the 150 comprehensive scholarships, which will cover from university academic costs to their maintenance . These are tuition, school fees, #English, desk supplies, local mobility, food, accommodation (when applicable), laptop, among others.

59% of the shortlisted are between 15 and 16 years old, 40% between 17 and 18 years old, and 1% are between 19 and 22 years old. #Likewise, more than 79% of the young women belong to households living in poverty or extreme poverty. #Another fact to highlight is that 93% come from public schools and the difference from private.

The 10 regions with the highest number of preselected are #Lima (71), #Puno (66), #Junín (48), #Piura (45), Áncash (41), #Huánuco (30), #Apurímac (28), #Ayacucho (26), #Cajamarca (26) and #Amazonas (22).

The next steps to follow for the shortlisted

#From #January, the shortlisted will have access to the #Support and #Orientation #Platform (PAO) from their electronic boxes in #Sibec. #Through this system, they will have access to three highly useful tools so that they can choose well informed the career and higher educational institution where to study.
