Penn State lands Temple grad transfer DE Arnold Ebiketie

#Penn #State added more muscle to its defensive line #Thursday in the form of #Temple transfer #Arnold #Ebiketie. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder is a graduate transfer with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

#Ebiketie, who played his high school ball at #Albert #Einstein #High in #Kensington, #Md., had been receiving serious interest from #Boston #College, #Texas, #Florida #State, #Wake #Forest, #South #Carolina, #Mississippi #State, #Washington and — of course — the #Nittany #Lions after entering the NCAA’s #Transfer #Portal. #He is coming off a strong season at #Temple in which he had 42 tackles, including four sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss in just six games. #He won second-team #All-American #Athletic #Conference

“Glad to start a new journey and be part of the #Penn #State family,” he posted on #Twitter. #Ebiketie entered the #Transfer #Portal #Dec. 23.

#On #Tuesday, #Ebiketie told 247Sports’ #Brian #Dohn that he intended to make a quick decision on a transfer destination. #He was not kidding.

“#My goal is to try and make the decision soon because my goal is to enroll in a new school in #January,” #Ebiketie said. “I am trying to make the decision, hopefully by the end of the weekend, so that will give me time to know where I am going.”

#Penn #State’s spring semester classes are slated to begin #Jan. 18. #Ebiketie is the fourth transfer to commit to the #Lions and the second defensive lineman, joining #Duke tackle #Derrick #Tangelo as newcomers to the program’s front four.

The fact that #Penn #State runs a base 4-3 defense worked in the #Nittany #Lions’ favor. #In 2020, PSU had a pair of first-team #All-Big #Ten defensive ends in #Shaka #Toney and #Jayson #Oweh, both of whom have declared for the 2021 NFL #Draft. #Veteran DE #Shane #Simmons also decided to call it a career. #So playing time at defensive end is available for anyone willing to earn it.

“I have a lot of schools hitting me up and I am going through that phase of narrowing things down to pick the best,” #Ebiketie told #Dohn earlier this week. “I am definitely looking at a 4-3 defense and I want to go to a defense that gives me the ability to showcase my skill set depending on the scheme and what they do best. I want it to be a match between what I do and what they do scheme-wise.

“#Obviously, I don’t want to go to a place where they don’t have a need at the position,” he added. “There would be no reason for me to go to that program.”

#Penn #State’s two other transfer commits so far are former #Baylor running back #John #Lovett and former #South #Carolina defensive back #John #Dixon.
