The #French president seeks to regain control after a 2020 plagued by what he described as a “historic pandemic”, international tensions, terrorism, social divisions and unprecedented economic difficulties.

“#What our citizens expect of us for the year 2021 is to turn it into a useful year, of struggle, recovery and ambition,” said #Macron, who overcame the contagion by #Covid-19 in recent days.

#Although #Macron warned that the first months of 2021 will be “difficult” because the pandemic will still “weigh heavily” on the country’s activity, which already has 2.6 million infected, he was also hopeful about the arrival of vaccines and the recovery of all sectors.

#In his statement, the leader paid tribute to the agents of the care agencies who have died in the exercise of their functions and remembered the more than 64,000 who died from #Covid-19.

“#This year 2020 has been difficult, it has reminded us of our vulnerabilities. #And it has been even more unfair for the weakest,” said #Macron.

#This #December 31, after a year of transition, the #Brexit agreement will come into effect, so the #French president also dedicated part of his speech to the departure of the #United #Kingdom from the #European #Union and indicated that behind all this process there have been “many lies”.

#However, #Macron clarified that the #United #Kingdom is still a neighbor, but also a friend and ally of #France.

2021 will be a year of “results”, “concrete actions” and “monitoring of the reform agenda,” promised the #French head of state.
