After it had been known since mid-January that Valve would release its VR flagship game Half-Life: Alyx – which is located between Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2 – in March 2020 for the PC and numerous supported VR headsets , the developer has now officially announced the start for March 23, 2020.

Bonus content for index VR buyers

On March 2, Valve began rolling out the pre-order bonus content for buyers of the in-house Valve Index VR headset in the form of special SteamVR home environments in the style of Half-Life: Alyx.

Buyers of the VR Headsets Index also get the game for free, everyone else can currently get it with a 10 percent discount for 45 euros Preorder through Steam and play on all SteamVR compatible HMDs, including HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Replenishment of Index VR headsets in sight

The developer also announced news regarding VR hardware. Due to the VR-exclusive Half-Life game, the Index VR headset was already sold out at Christmas 2019. Valve has now also commented on this via Twitter and promptly announced new information. The company also showed three previously unreleased screenshots from Half-Life: Alyx.

The hoped-for breakthrough for VR in games?

From Half-Life: Alyx expects nothing less than the breakthrough for SteamVR and the topic of virtual reality in games. Last but not least, the sales figures of Half-Life: Alyx will have to show whether the VR game can set the right impulses for this and how great the success will ultimately be.
