Spain already has 4,089 coronavirus deaths. Despite stricter curfews than in Austria, for example, the number of infections rose to over 56,000 by Thursday, with around 8,600 infections more than the previous day. 655 deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours, the daily “El Pais” (online) reported on Thursday.
A particularly high percentage of those infected in Spain are medical and nursing staff. The spokeswoman for the government, Maria Jesus Montero, declared on the television station “Telecinco” that a “real war” had broken out over the supply of masks, rapid tests and respirators.
