The companies stand still! But what does this mean for millions of Germans who are now receiving short-time work benefits instead of wages?
The facts: The Federal Employment Agency pays 60 percent of net wages and 67 percent for employees with children. Social contributions are fully reimbursed to the companies. The short-time work benefit is paid for a maximum of twelve months.
Via smart computers Here you can calculate how much short-time work benefit you will receive.
▶ ︎ A childless single from Thuringia (Tax class 1) has a gross monthly salary of 4000 euros. Of these, the company only pays € 2,000 due to short-time working. In this case, the state would also pay an additional EUR 641.76 short-time work benefit.
▶ ︎ A mother with two children from Frankfurt (Tax class 3) has a gross monthly salary of 2800 euros. Of these, the company only pays 1000 euros due to short-time working. In this case, an additional € 882.50 short-time work benefit would be paid by the state.
“Short-time work seems threatening at first. Our calculator at least gives quick clarity about the financial impact, ”says Stefan Banse from Smart-Rechner.de.
Incidentally, if the short-time allowance is not enough to live on, you are entitled to basic security. This additional state benefit must be applied for individually. Click here for the application.
Earning extra is expressly permitted
Unlike in the past, employees in short-time work are more easily able to earn money with another job – up to 100 percent of their previous wages, without reducing the short-time work allowance.
“If you now have to work short-time (…), we have raised the additional earnings limit,” said Federal Minister of Labor Heil on Tuesday at RTL / ntv. There is the strange effect that “in some areas short-time work is actually done because the orders are gone, in other areas people are urgently needed”.
Heil cited as an example: “There is a laundry that has no orders now, but we need people in the laundry in the hospital.”
Heil continues: “It’s a complex idea, but I think it’s very important because we now need people in logistics, agriculture, and health care so that our supply is also secured in Germany.”
