The return campaign of blocked Swiss tourists in Latin America is in full swing. A special flight from Edelweiss from Colombia arrived in Switzerland on Wednesday morning. On the way to Zurich there was turmoil, two passengers had to be tied up (BLICK reported).
Another Edelweiss plane took off from Peru’s capital Lima on Wednesday afternoon. This flight also brings stranded Swiss back home, who were blocked due to the corona crisis in Latin America.
Pictures by a BLICK reader reporter show the passengers shortly before they return to Switzerland. The plane is expected in Zurich on Thursday morning.
Lima directly to Zurich
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) announced the effort last week. Because in certain cases due to local developments it is no longer possible to organize the return trip independently, Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis has given the Crisis Management Center (KMZ) the task of “taking care of the organized return trips.”
Normally you can only get to Zurich from Peru’s capital Lima with three airlines: with Air France via Paris, with KLM via Amsterdam or with Iberia via Madrid. The Edelweiss plane now brings the passengers directly back to Switzerland. (nim)
