Among the 1,298 new cases, 857 (66%) are in Flanders, 256 (20%) in Wallonia and 164 (13%) in Brussels. For 21 cases (2%), the data are not yet available.
“The percentage of positive tests shows an increasing trend, with a percentage of around 30% in recent days. This upward trend is explained by the combination of increased circulation of the virus, a stricter possible case definition, and the use of sorting systems in the laboratories, which have given priority to the most urgent samples ”, explains the Sciensano health institute.
Remember that the number of cases detected is lower than the reality of the number of people carrying the virus in Belgium.
In the past 24 hours, 536 Covid-19 patients have been hospitalized and 128 people have been discharged from the hospital. The previous day, these numbers were respectively 434 patients with Covid-19 hospitalized and 115 people who had left hospital.
There are therefore 2,652 patients in the hospital, including 605 in intensive care (+131 people). Of these, 420 need assistance with breathing (+98).
Between March 15 and March 25, 2,844 patients with Covid-19 were admitted to the hospital and 675 people were discharged.
Forty-two additional deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of people who died from Covid-19 in Belgium to 220.
