Coronavirus: Wilmes government obtains special powers in the House


Lhe House approved in plenary Thursday the bill which gives the government special powers to deal with the covid-19 crisis by 104 votes for, 8 against (PTB) and 16 abstentions (Vlaams Belang). The authorization is valid for three months, which the Chamber may eventually renew. The Senate will also meet on Friday to decide on the text.

The Chamber also approved by 120 votes with 8 abstentions (PTB) the bill allowing the granting of a state guarantee for certain credits in the framework of the fight against the consequences of the coronavirus. The total amount of guaranteed loans amounts to 50 billion euros in principal, divided between the banks on the basis of their market share in the loans concerned on 1 February 2020.

The Chamber also installed the special powers control commission. It will be chaired by Servais Verherstraeten (CD & amp; V). It will also have two vice-presidents: Eliane Tillieux (PS) and a member of the Ecolo-Groen group still to be appointed. The meetings will be held on Monday afternoon.
