Wifo boss Badelt: “There is an urgent recommendation to seriously consider starting up the economy again”.
The economic researchers at the IHS and Wifo announced on Thursday in their economic forecast that they should carefully consider extending the “shutdown” beyond April. “There is an urgent recommendation to seriously consider starting up the economy again,” said Wifo CEO Christoph Badelt. It is of course a trade-off between health and economic issues.
Badelt advocated protecting high-risk coronavirus groups if the economy started up again. It is inconceivable for IHS chief Martin Kocher to maintain this extent of the “shutdown” beyond April. Otherwise there will also be major economic problems in industry and construction. “We cannot afford this economically,” said Kocher. He recommended making “informed decisions” and looking at countries like South Korea, which are seen as examples of success in fighting coronvirus.
