(Agence Ecofin) – Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube have decided to reduce the quality of streaming to minimize the pressure on internet traffic. The 3 companies have decided to do so in the face of the increase in the number of people who use their services because of the various confinements decreed to combat COVID 19.

Last weekend, according to initial reports, the time spent in streaming increased by more than 20% worldwide. You should know that with Google, Netflix, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple and Facebook, the 6 giants use more than 43% of the total volume of web traffic.

By reducing the pressure caused by the quality of their streams, the various video-on-demand services hope to allow governments to take advantage of all their internet capabilities for important tasks.
