Qualcomm to democratize noise reduction in true wireless headphones


Known for its Snapdragon processors for smartphones, Qualcomm has just announced its new Bluetooth circuits for headphones true wireless. The QCC514x (high-end) and QCC304x (entry / mid-range) SoC (System on a Chip) chips are distinguished by the standard integration of active noise reduction. So even future inexpensive headphones will benefit.

Hybrid noise reduction

Noise reduction is of the hybrid type (Hybrid ANC), with microphones placed outside, but also inside the earpiece. This makes it possible to cover a wider spectrum of frequencies.

The circuits also benefit from Qualcomm’s TrueWireless Mirroring technology. Each of the two headphones can establish a Bluetooth link with the mobile device, which avoids having a master / slave configuration. For example, you can alternately use the left earpiece, then the right, or vice versa. The QCC514x and QCC304x chips are also designed to limit energy consumption and offer, according to the manufacturer, up to 13 hours of autonomy.

Qualcomm also allows the use of assistants such as Google Assistant or Alexa. The QCC304x circuit is operated by pressing a button to activate the assistant, while the more advanced QCC514x circuit is designed to offer voice, word or phrase triggering.

No headset builder yet true wireless did indicate that he would use these circuits in his new devices. But, these chips should help the proliferation of this type of cheap headphones with active noise reduction, good quality with a little luck.
