10 years after suicide: Ozil and LOw commemorate Enke – Fussball

Ten years ago, Germany's depression-plagued team-ally Robert Enke took his own life. This is how Mesut Ozil and Joachim LOw commemorate their former goalkeeper.

On 10 November 2009 Germany's team goalkeeper Robert Enke took his own life near Hanover at the age of 32. The shock was huge, his wife Teresa explained that her husband had been suffering from severe depression for years. Ten years later, former players like Mesut Ozil commemorate Enke in the social networks. "He was 32 years old and will never be forgotten," writes the Arsenal legionary, among others, on Twitter. "Depression should not be seen as a weakness and certainly not a taboo topic."

Holger Badstuber tells his followers that in Germany alone, four million people suffer from depression.

Germany's national coach Joachim Loew also thought of Enke. Together with widow Teresa, the 59-year-old visited the final resting place of his former team goalkeeper.

Hannover 96, the club for which Enke was last active, remembers him with this video:
