13,500 demonstrated against Islamophobia – News

Around 13,500 people gathered in Paris on Sunday to signal against Islamophobia and racism.

In the French capital Paris, there was a big rally against Islamophobia on Sunday. In Marseille, too, people, especially Muslims, took to the streets. In the port city, however, "only" a few hundred people gathered. Criticism of the demonstrations came in advance of several pages. First, the French government criticized the demonstration. She received support from the extreme right. Criticism was above all to the organizers of the demonstration.

Criticism from the right, approval from the left

For among them were among others the "Collective against Islamophobia in France" (CCIF). The CCIF is said to be close to the Muslim Brotherhood, which is classified as Islamist in the West. The demonstration was attended by representatives of the left. Representatives of the left-wing party La France Insoumise and Communist Party leader Jean-Luc Melenchon joined the protesters.

The call for the demonstration was published on November 1, four days after an attack on a mosque in Bayonne, in a left-leaning newspaper ("Liberation"). France is currently in the midst of a debate about the headscarf and the separation of church and state.
