From the beginning the UCAM was more plugged in and the proof of this was that with just six minutes of play elapsed already won by 11 points (16-5) with nine goals scored in that start by Booker. The advantage was increased in the first period and reached 13 (22-9) after two consecutive three scored by Eddie and that after a timeout requested by Ponsarnau. The room closed with a 24-13 that summarized what was happening.
The grana team, with more energy and attention, sent clearly, although a defensive improvement and the good work of Bojan Dubljevic, with nine points of the Montenegrin before the break -20 at the end-, allowed the taronja team to get fully into the match (30-27).
However, a technique pointed out to Louis Labeyrie for kicking a bottle of water and impacting an amateur was a turning point. That action ignited even more to the stand and the atmosphere warmed to the point that Alberto Albalde was disqualified 42 seconds after the break for receiving two other techniques in a row. Those actions off-center Valencia Basket, which retired to the locker room with a -12 (46-34 in favor of those of Sito Alonso).
Back on the track the same tonic remained and the university advantage remained stabilized above the ten points (57-44). However, the Valencians did not give up and with a partial of 3-17 returned to send many minutes later, specifically from 0-1, with a basket of Quino Colom to close the room (60-61) .
The UCAM was no longer seen as fluent in attack and his opponent emerged in his game and in his conviction after bending the locals in the third period (13-27).
A triple of Colom and an assistance of the Andorran for the mate of Mike Tobey opened more gap (61-66), but the UCAM, based on triples – his best weapon -, stopped the bleeding (69-69).
The meeting would be decided by small details and the tripler festival of the locals with Booker, Giannoulis Larentzakis, Manu Lecomte and Eddie and with Jordan Loyd trying to replicate made those of Sito Alonso had an 81-78 minute and a half of the end, but three consecutive points of Dubljevic – a free kick and a basket – forced the extension and Colom still had the shot that could have been the victory of those in the capital of Turia.
In the extra time, played with a lot of tension and little success of exit, the Valencians got to go three up (83-86), but a 9-0 with three encestes of Booker and Eddie, the two maximum triplists of the Endesa League , left the crash almost sentenced (92-86 with 63 seconds until the final honk). Almost sentenced, but not fully sentenced.
In fact, the score was 96-95 after a triple by Fernando San Emeterio and two by Aaron Doornekamp 10 seconds from the end. Lecomte failed one of the two free throws he had and that gave Loyd the option of giving Valencia the victory. His triple this time did not enter and thus closed the shock that lasted two and a half hours and had moments of high voltage.
