Stationary trade in Germany continues to be dominated by large grocers such as Edeka, Rewe, Aldi or Lidl. In a ranking published on Tuesday by the Cologne-based retail research institute EHI, the 1,000 top-selling stationary retailers, the supermarket chains and discounters occupied nine of the top ten places.
The undisputed market leaders were the Edeka supermarkets, which, according to EHI, alone had net sales of more than 27 billion euros, ahead of the discounters Lidl and Aldi Sud. In the other places followed the Rewe supermarkets, Netto, Kaufland, Aldi Nord, Penny and Real. As the only non-grocer in the top ten, the drugstore chain dm ranked tenth. The top position of Edeka is in line with the results of a representative survey that CHIP conducted with Civey mid-year.
