American football instead of impeachment: Donald and Melania Trump travel to Alabama and enjoy support in the south of the country.
- Donald Trump at sports events: Controversial reactions
- New York: Donald Trump booed at UFC event
- Washington: "Lock Him Up" – Baseball fans berate Donald Trump
Update, 10.11.2019, 9:00 am: Alabama is not Washington and certainly not New York. If Donald Trump visits the "ruby-red" state (as Americans call the states that usually attract Republicans), then he can hope for a friendly reception – no matter how the impeachment process runs, what new details about the Ukraine affair come to light or what is written in books that publish anonymous authors from the White House.
The US president traveled with his first lady Melania Trump to Tuscaloosa to watch an American football match between the University of Alabama and the University of Louisiana at the Bryant-Denny Stadium. Instead of the Buh shouts and the "Block Him One" speaking choirs that Trump had to endure in (mostly Democratic cities like) New York and Washington, he was in the small town south of the country with "USA" shouts and "Trump 2020 ".

According to CNN, boos were heard throughout the game, but the overwhelming majority of the over 100,000 spectators gave their president a warm welcome. The thanked via Twitter and published a whole series of photos and videos.
Boos and middle finger – Donald Trump's visit to the UFC event in New York
New York – Donald Trump had certainly imagined it differently. Together with his sons Eric and Donald Jr. visited the US President in his hometown of New York, an event of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in Madison Square Garden. The UFC is the largest organizer of mixed martial arts competitions. That night, UFC legend Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal met under the title "UFC 244".
UFC fans are seen as more conservative in the US, much like fans of Nascar motorsport or the wrestling show-fighting events of "World Wrestling Entertainment Inc." (WWE). That's another reason why Trump may have been sure of the cheers of the spectators before his arrival at Madison Square Garden. Together with Dana White, UFC President and Trump fan, and his Eric and Donald Trump Jr., the US President appeared before the start of the main battles at Madison Square Garden. But instead of applause Trump got to hear boos in particular. On shaky cell phone recordings you can also see fans who stretch the middle finger to Trump.
Donald Trump: boos in baseball and at the UFC
For the incumbent US president, however, it is no news to be booed at a sporting event. Just recently, Trump attended a Washington Nationals game in the World Series of Major League Baseball. Again, the "Buhs" outweighed the "Yeahs".
Trump is always looking for proximity to martial arts events such as the Mixed Martial Arts competitions of the UFC. Also to Vince McMahon, ex-wrestler and since 1983 head of WWE, Trump has a friendly relationship. UFC President White is considered an outspoken Trump fan and gave a blatant speech to Trump at the 2016 Republican Congress, in which he voted for the election of the then presidential candidate. In times when the UFC had legal disputes with US authorities, it was Trump who repeatedly allowed the martial arts series to host events at his hotels, including the "Trump Taj Mahal" in Atlantic Ciy in 2001.
In August 2019, Donald Trump Jr. * already visited a UFC event where Colby Covington fought Robbie Lawler. Covington is a staunch Trump supporter who keeps showing off his bouts with a red "Make America Great Again" cap, the unofficial badge for radical Trump supporters.
UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal praises after defeating Nate Diaz Donald Trump
For Trump, the bad PR at two sporting events over the past few weeks reflects his current situation in the White House. There, the US president is exposed to an impeachment procedure, which is fueled almost daily by new negative headlines.
By the way, the main fight at UFC 244 was won by Masvidal after technical knockout, because the ring doctor had broken off the fight due to an injury of Diaz at the end of the third round. Trump congratulated Masvidal via Twitter and shared a video of the Cuban-American fighter in which Masvidal speaks positively about Trump.
Walking into Madison Square Garden @danawhite for the big one @UFC Championship fight was a little bit like walking into a trump rally. Plenty of MAGA & KAG present. Great energy. Fantastic job Dana! Heading to D.C. and then to Kentucky for a big one @MattBevin Rally …

Trump commented on the video with "Congratulations, Champ", although the fight between Masvidal and Diaz was not a title fight.
Donald Trump ignores the verbal abuse at UFC 244
By the way, the US President expertly blotted out all the insults and boos during his arrival in the hall. In a tweet, Trump said the event at Madison Square Garden had felt like a "Trump Rally."
