"We see in the late phase of the era Merkel, which erosion processes it triggers": Christian Lindner has again proposed to limit the term of office of the Chancellor – and he has yet another proposal.
FDP leader Christian Lindner has again spoken in favor of limiting the term of office of the Federal Chancellor to two legislative terms. "A chancellor, a chancellor should only be re-elected once in the future," Lindner told the "Welt am Sonntag". "We see in the late phase of the era Merkel, which erosion processes it triggers."
After two legislative periods at the head of the government, all the chancellors had lost their design ambitions. However, Lindner pleaded for the term of office to be extended from four to five years.
Lindner had already criticized in an interview in 2016, the refugee policy of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and declared: "I slowly win the idea of limiting the term of chancellors to eight years, so that the reference to reality is maintained." Merkel is since November 22, 2005 head of government.
