The Austrian Dominic Thiem won the third victory this year over the Swiss Roger Federer by beating him 5-7 and 5-7 in the debut of both this year in the ATP finals that are disputed in the O2 from Londons.
In group match Bjorn BorgThiem won the sixfold champion of the tournament in a hundred minutes, taking revenge for the defeat that the former world number one inflicted on him in this same tournament last year, also in the first phase (6-2 and 6-3).
Thiem, who dominates the face-to-face now 5-2, had won the de Basel in the end of Indian wells, in hard track, and in the quarterfinals of Madrid, on land, this year.
This is Federer's first indoor track defeat so far this season. Winner in Basel, where he won the four games he played (Stan Wawrinka he was not introduced), and both of the Geneva Laver Cup, against the Australian Nick Kyrgios and the American John isner, Federer had not lost any this year indoors.
The Serbian Novak Djokovic, who also beat the Italian Matteo Berrettini 6-2 and 6-1 in 63 minutes, he will face Thiem on Tuesday, while Federer will do so against the tennis player in Rome.
