Football: Ice cold Liverpool defeats City in the Schlager

Fabinho (6th), Mohammed Salah (13th) and Sadio Mane (51.) scored the goals for coach Jurgen Klopp's side, adding their third defeat to the "Citizens" this season. While the guests had more games, the hosts were more efficient with their outstanding switching game. For City Bernardo Silva scored only the goal to 1: 3 (78th).

In the table, Liverpool, who has won eleven out of twelve games, has eight points ahead of the new second Leicester City and the third Chelsea (26 points each). City slipped to fourth place and is nine points behind Liverpool. In the past season, however, the team of coach Pep Guardiola caught seven points behind and still took the title.

Hot start phase

Already the beginning quarter hour had it in itself: City took the hilt into the hand, but the goals scored Liverpool. The Brazilian Fabinho looked worth more than 20 meters into the left corner to the lead (6). Excitement was immediately followed by an action in the "Reds" penalty area when Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold got the ball on the outstretched arm. But already in the emergence of this situation City player Bernardo Silva touched the leather with his hand.

Three minutes later, Raheem Sterling missed a free-kick on his own in front of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson (9), while another good free-kick by Kevin De Bruyne barely got Sergio Aguero close (12 ') before the Reds struck again. After a diagonal ball to Andrew Robertson the Scottish left-back brought the ball in front of the goal, where star striker Salah exploited the touch of the head (13).

Liverpool with preliminary decision

As a result, the game calmed down somewhat, but remained at a high level. City continued to gain more from the game in the first half, and Angelino also gave him another good scoring opportunity, but his deflected finish landed on the outside bar (29 '). On the other hand, Roberto Firmino failed to goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, who guarded the city box for the battered Ederson (38.).

The second half started much like the first: City played, Liverpool hit. This time Jordan Henderson brought a cross from the right perfectly to the second pole, where Mane completed with a header – Bravo only steered the leather into his own box (51.). Thus, the game was pre-decided, also because the guests let miss the last consequence in front. Silva was reserved for the honors goal after finishing the game (78 '), and in the final City relented but failed to hit, leaving star striker Aguero without a goal in his tenth appearance at legendary Anfield.

City has been waiting 16 years for a league victory at the place of worship. Liverpool are now well on their way to their first league title since 1990. Eight points clear is a considerable difference, especially considering that the Liverpool have only scored 19 points in the last 50 Premier League rounds.

Home wins for United and Wolverhampton

Before Liverpool, Manchester United also celebrated a 3-1 home win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday. Andres Pereira (17 ') and an own goal from Davy PrOpper (19 th) made it 2-0 through a double strike. Lewis Dunk shortened after the break (64.), but Marcus Rashford quickly restored the old distance (66.).

The "Red Devils" return seventh in the top half of the table. Wolverhampton Wanderers also celebrated a home win: the Europa League side defeated newcomers Aston Villa 2-1. The Wanderers ranked just behind Manchester United in eighth place.
