Thanks to Nils Petersen, Freiburg beats Eintracht Frankfurt. In a highly emotional closing phase Eintracht captain David Abraham ensures a scandal and checks out SC coach Christian Streich.
Body check against Christian Streich, pack formation, double red: The 1: 0 (0: 0) victory of SC Freiburg against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday ended in chaos. Frankfurt's David Abraham had cleared SC coach Streich shortly before the finish in front of the Freiburg Bank and saw red (90. + 6 minutes).
In the attack Abraham, according to the Freiburg coach burned the "backups". Abraham is an emotional guy, Streich told TV channel Sky. "Abraham is an extremely emotional player and then, I just can not get away, he's just running me over," Streich described the scene. You should now "shut down," said Streich, "not somehow stupid chattering afterwards."
After Abraham's Rempler almost the entire Freiburger Bank had stormed on the Argentines, even the already replaced Vincenzo Grifo, who also saw red after viewing the video images. "He felt provoked, but that must not happen to him, he knows that," said Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic on the action of Abraham. "There will be consequences for everyone involved."
David Abraham apologized after the game with Freiburg coach. "I'm very happy that we talked after the game and everything is fine between us," the 33-year-old Argentine is quoted in a tweet of the Frankfurt. "I wanted to get the ball back into play as quickly as possible in the final minute of stoppage time and should have dodged it," Abraham said.
Streich, Abraham and Grifo had already spoken and reconciled shortly after the game. "I'm not a particularly unforgiving person," said Streich. "He apologized and the matter is done."
Harmony weakens itself
The match was decided by an unnecessary dismissal for Frankfurt Gelson Fernandes (45.), who had come too late just before the break against Jonathan Schmid. Nils Petersen scored in front of 24,000 spectators the decisive goal (77.) for the hosts, who played a half-time in excess. While the Breisgauer climbed to fourth place in the Bundesliga, Frankfurt slipped to rank nine after the sixth game in 18 days.
From the yellow-red card against Fernandes benefited Freiburg initially not at all. Frankfurt was significantly lower in number, the Freiburg forays on the wings did not succeed. Only Petersen made perfect with his 82nd competing game goal for Freiburg the sixth victory of the sports club.
Frankfurt is getting better and better
That the Frankfurt played their sixth game within 18 days, they were not noted with regard to the mileage. Against the fiercely strong hosts, the team of coach Adi Hutter developed in the course of the first half, even a chance overweight. The surprisingly offensive-looking defender Martin Hinteregger failed, however, twice with a shot from an acute angle (12/35). The biggest chance was awarded by Erik Durm (21), whose shot went to the crossbar.
The longer the game lasted, the better the concord – until it weakened itself by the legitimate dismissal for Fernandes. Even after half an hour had referee Felix Brych correctly decided when he withdrew a already-fined penalty for Eintracht after viewing the video images: Paciencia had not been fouled before, but had stepped into the ground.
Petersen redeems Freiburg
In excess, the hosts then changed their game concept. At first, the team of coach Christian Streich had often tried with long balls on Petersen. Lucas HOler (8th) and Roland Sallai (28th) were twice dangerous when the former international was knocked off his head.
In overpower against now lower Frankfurter tried the SC then rather with flat passes. But even after a break in injury in the 57th minute substitute national player Luca Waldschmidt did not cause danger. Only late Petersen met then but still to 1: 0 success. (Sg / dpa)
