During the night of Monday, the cloud remains northeast. Then it is often starry before fog and high fog fields spread over the lowlands and re-form. The wind from northwest to east and blowing weak to moderate. By the morning it cools down to plus 5 to minus 6 degrees.

Late autumn weather with snowfall in the west

Sun, snow and rain bring the coming week, and at temperatures in the double-digit range. In some parts of Austria, the rare micro-solar eclipse of a Mercury transit will be on show tomorrow, Monday, provided the equipment of (hobby) astronomers is required, as the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics predicted on Sunday.

The Monday is initially quite sunny at higher altitudes. While the fog fields in the lowlands on the northern side of the Alps are increasingly clearing, the Waldviertel can stay gray for longer, and it is often murky in the south, where multi-layered clouds rise later. Thin cloud fields also make it over the Alps and can affect the sunshine a bit. The wind blows weak to moderate, in the east and along the northern side of the Alps at times vividly from east to south. The early temperatures are between minus six and plus five degrees, the afternoon temperatures between four and eleven degrees.

Mini solar eclipse on Monday

The Merkur transit, with which the small planet pushes before the sun, could in Austria, according to the data of the central institute for meteorology and geodynamics in Vienna starting from 13.35 o'clock most in the north and east of the federal territory, for example also in the Mostviertel, Vienna Basin and parts of Burgenland. It depends on the local fog fields. There are few chances for this in the west and south of the federal territory.

Apart from a few relaxations, the sky is often cloudy on Tuesday and it is raining heavily. The northwest and west are largely spared, while in the south and southwest rainfall may be strong at times. The snowfall limit usually ranges between 700 and 1,200 meters above sea level, in the east and southeast between 1,300 and 1,800 meters above sea level. The wind is weak to moderate in variable directions. The lowest temperatures range from zero to plus seven degrees, the daily highs at three to ten degrees.

On Wednesday there is a fault zone across Austria and moves only slowly eastwards. Thus, the clouds prevail in many parts of the country and it is raining or snowing again and again. Cold air masses have penetrated to the west and the north side of the Alps and here it is snowing to 400 to 700 meters above sea level. In the east and south, the snowfall limit during the day is still well over 1,000 meters. In the east moderate to lively west to northwest wind refreshes, otherwise it is rather windy. Early temperatures zero to five degrees, daily highs two to eight degrees.

The high current turns on Thursday again more to the southwest, and on the northern side of the Alps it is fOhnig. In general, the sunny weather character predominates in many parts of the country, even if a few high or medium high cloud fields run through from the southwest. In places, a bit of fog can hold over the lowlands. Only on the southern side of the Alps, in the southwest, is the dust cloud already overcast and during the day it starts to rain. The snowfall limit is 1,500 meters. The wind turns east to south and refreshes moderately to lively in the mountains and in the Danube region. The early temperatures range from minus three to plus five degrees, the daily highs of three to nine degrees.

Friday: The high current is turning more and more south and the hair dryer situation on the northern side of the Alps is getting worse. On the mountains blowing stormy south wind, which often brings friendly weather on the northern side of the Alps. High cloud fields can cloud the sunny impression. On the other hand, fog and high fog partly persist over the lowlands. On the southern side of the Alps, on the other hand, from the Silvretta to Oberkarnten, the clouds are accumulating and it is raining again and again. The snowfall limit is between 1.00 and 2.000 meters. The wind blows also in the lowlands and in the valleys partly lively from southeast to south. Early temperatures: minus one to plus six degrees, daily highs: three to twelve degrees.
