Gladbach celebrates home win against Werder Bremen

At Bundesliga club Borussia MOnchengladbach, the mood is still great: The fans were standing on the seats, Marcus Thuram ran the corner flag over the square and the young family man Patrick Herrmann could hardly believe his luck.

"I do not even know that we are still leading the table," said doubles goalscorer Patrick Herrmann after the 3-1 (2-0) against Werder Bremen.

On Thursday, the winger of Borussia MOnchengladbach had to watch because the birth of his first child was imminent, on Sunday he led his team to victory. "There was not much more this week, everything went well," said Herrmann.

The Gladbacher showed in front of 54 022 spectators in the sold-out Borussia Park again a great performance against a very strong opponent, who never put on, but fell by a quick double by Ramy Bensebaini and Herrmann (20/22) behind.

"I think that the better team won today, but the more effective," said Werder coach Florian Kohfeldt after the racy game of two strong offensive teams.

Goalkeeper summer holds the victory

The hosts were fortunate twice when Yuya Osako's (28) goal was denied and Yann Sommer parried Davy Klaassen's penalty on 53 minutes.

The Gladbach goalkeeper, not usually known as a penalty killer, had a great day, parrying everything but Leonardo Bittencourt's stoppage in injury time. "I'm really happy because it's not a matter of course to take a penalty," said Sommer. Shortly thereafter Herrmann had already made the decision with his second goal.

With the three victories in Leverkusen (2-1) against AS Roma (2-1) and now against Bremen, the Gladbach have decided a great week and in the league a four-point lead at the top of the table.

"It's going well, but that's all worked out hard," said sporting director Max Eberl. The 46-year-old is enthusiastic about the way the team performs.

Werder coach despite negative series optimistic

"She has been very stable in their last seven games against both of Dortmund's defeats against Dortmund, always upset, never put on, that's a bargaining chip," added Eberl. Since the dismissal for Bensebaini in the final phase could change nothing in the good mood.

The fans in the Borussia-Park were completely ecstatic and we once sang to great championship times at BOkelberg. But we will not let anything get in the way, the fans are allowed to dream and for the next 14 days we will remain the league leaders, but I know there will be other times as well, "said coach Rose.

For better times Kohfeldt hopes for now seven games without winning in series, but also mostly good performances. "That gives me courage for the next few weeks, but we have to be vigilant," said Bremen coach.

And because he has a fine feeling for good football, he also said quite honestly: "It's really fun to watch Borussia MOnchengladbach."
