Australian boxer Dwight ritchie He died this Saturday in Melbourne at age 27 after receiving a blow during a training, while spreading for his countryman Michael Zerafa, announced its promoter.
"With great sadness and shock I must announce the death, today, of the‘ Fighting cowboy ’Dwight Ritchie, who died doing what he liked," Australian boxing promoter Jake Ellis said on Facebook.
Ritchie, who boxed in the category of super welters (19 wins, 2 losses), he returned to his corner and went to the ground after receiving a blow to the body by Zerafa, 27, according to the Sydney’s Daily Telegraph. It could not be revived, the Australian newspaper added.
The deceased boxer had competed for the last time in mid-August and lost to fellow countryman Tim Tszyu by decision of the judges.
"I am very sad about the death of Dwight Ritchie," the latter reacted in his social network account Instagram.
Ritchie's death comes three and a half weeks after the death of American Patrick Day, at age 27, due to brain injuries sustained during a super-welter bout against his compatriot Charles Conwell, in Chicago.
