Ibarguen: taking the triple jump of the program ends the illusion of a region

Bogota, Nov. 10 (EFE) .- Athlete Caterine Ibarguen criticized the determination of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) to exclude the triple jump of the Diamond League and said that this decision is " ending the illusion of a region. "

Last week, the IAFF reduced the Diamond League test program from 32 to 24, where the triple jump, the 3,000 meters obstacles, the 200 meters smooth, and the disc will no longer be in the men's and women's category.

"You are ending the illusion of a region, countries such as Venezuela and Colombia need more joy than they have lived through our results in the Diamond Leagues," the Colombian wrote on Instagram.

He added that children "love and practice this sport, this because of the illusion we offer in each competition, do not continue to see athletics as a show, see it as a lifestyle for new generations who want to follow our steps."

The reduction of the Diamond League program is due to the fact that the Association seeks to make a new compressed format in 90 minutes to meet television transmission commitments.

Ibarguen and the Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas, recent champion in the World Cup in Doha, are world leaders in this discipline for which they are admired in their countries.

After the decision of the IAFF, Ibarguen will not be from next year in the different stops of the League that take place throughout the year in different cities of the world.

Caterine has won five leagues in triple jump and now she only has long jump, a discipline she practices but in which she has not achieved great triumphs.

Last year Ibarguen, 35, was distinguished as the best athlete in the world in 2018 by the IAAF, thanks to the results achieved in the triple jump. EFE
