Peace and serenity have been foreign words for FK Austria Wien for many weeks.
The favorites are still around, even the 2-0 home win could not hide the numerous fan protests.
The hostilities took on new forms. The main culprit for the crisis is on Markus Kraetschmerin the LAOLA1 interview after the final whistle answered questions and commented on the hot topics.
For example, the Austria board contradicts the presentation of the fans that the planned discussion was canceled by the club, what he does not understand the protests, why you will deviate from the red line and how to stop the drifting apart of the fans and the FAK ,
An appeal may not be missing.
LAOLA1: How liberating are these three points against Mattersburg in such a difficult phase in which the team and the club are currently located?
Markus Kraetschmer: Extremely facilitating for all involved! The team has really set a lot of goals right from the start – you've seen that. But it was also clear that then after the 2-0 in a phase in the second half, where Mattersburg has come up and had success with long balls, again the uncertainty has come to light. After all, it was a deserved win, we had a few chances for the third goal, but also in the end the luck of the efficient. Great relief to keep working in the international break. I am especially happy for the team and the coaching team that they did this difficult test today.
LAOLA1: How big would you describe the mentioned insecurity in the club and in the team?
Kraetschmer: I would differentiate it. The team notices that she has made a lot of plans, she has started well, well after the break well. But any connection hit, any situation that turns the game a bit the other way, you realize, that weighs on you then. Then what has worked quite well in the first half is suddenly difficult, you lose the second ball. But then it does the team good, now they can continue to work purposefully. In the club it is no uncertainty, but a relief, to be able to continue to work here purposefully. Sporty it remains so: We know that we are still in seventh place, we have now once shortened the backlog. We have here on November 30 the direct duel against Hartberg and have to do but before our topic in the Sudstadt. But as long as we have mathematical and computational possibilities, of course, we want to do everything we can to get into the championship round.
LAOLA1: A currently hot topic is Austria and its fans! The support has been missing, there was a lot of criticism and banners. How does the club handle it?
Kraetschmer: Basically, the club deals with it in such a way that today it was all banners that were just an expression of will, the displeasure that is expressed. Therefore, such banners are not prohibited by our side. What surprised me a bit, especially after the writing of the fans, which was also published on LAOLA1, was that I did not feel any support for the team until the end. I've seen a lot of banners, I've heard tentative attempts by a few to support the team, but I really did not hear anything until the very end – and just in the period of uncertainty they needed it. That's a pity. We should just stay with the facts, here follow our line clearly. We were and still are always ready to talk. Peter StOger and I also had a few weeks ago a conversation with the ultras-oriented fan groups, which was canceled at short notice from their side. We talked for a long time with the other fan groups. There should also have been a meeting on Saturday between the team representation and the fans, which, contrary to other scattered messages was very well not perceived by the fans. Alexander Grunwald spoke to StOger and me for a long time on Friday. We said: Please be available! It is in this phase to the support for the team. I am very surprised that they obviously spent a lot of time preparing the banners. If I may wish for anything – but my wishes are probably the last ones that interest fans right now – then it's about supporting the team. You have noticed that and you can see how important it is, what this can trigger in the team. That must be the goal and we will continue to work on that. Our hand is stretched out from our control room. We are for every dialogue that is reasonable. And the people – but it stays that way – who have performed in Pasching, will be explored, and then they have no place with us. This will continue to be our clear, very understandable line, which is generally appreciated by many other people – including the Austria family.
LAOLA1: How can one reunite there, because at the moment Austria and the fan scene are drifting apart?
Kraetschmer: You have to be careful when talking about "the" fan scene. I also hear that they are quite different opinions. What really surprised me then is this letter from yesterday, where they want to support a turnaround and the team. I think everyone who saw it in the stadium noticed: That was no support! This is a pity. From our side – starting with the presidency, through the board, the other committees – we are, as in the past, always in favor of a reasonable dialogue. There are red lines – we have also said that, for example, the incidents and the behavior in Pasching. You do not have to discuss that with us, we will not tolerate that. We'll be clear about it, too. But maybe everyone takes a little time in the international break, analyzed, considering how he can support the team in the Sudstadt and then in the important home game against Hartberg. If you want to continue to criticize my person or other people like this time, then you should do that. I would just wish that they use all their powers to support the team and the coaching team.
LAOLA1: How do you personally deal with the hostility against her person (Note: "Kraetschmer-out" -ransparents and calls to go in the spirit of the association)?
Kraetschmer: Unchanged! Of course this is not a pleasant situation, but I know how to classify it. We will always allow such protests if they remain in the frame. For me too, I am always available for dialogue at eye level. I would like to explain to people why the situation is difficult. Yes, we have used up our financial cushion through the infrastructure investments currently, but every day really work very hard to set up new funds or clarify things, so then just Peter StOger has the opportunity to rebuild the team from winter. That's just the clear analysis.
LAOLA1: Was it therefore surprising for you that Peter StOger and Ralf Muhr were also attacked with targeted banners?
Kraetschmer: Ralf Muhr and Markus Kraetschmer have been in the spotlight for quite some time, but Peter Stoeger also played the full line of the club in Pasching last week. We sit together several times a day, we exchange ideas, we try to support the team and the coaching team as best as possible. That the fans are a very important factor is not a question. That's actually my appeal to remember: now the much cited Austria family must be together! And if individual groups now have a conflict, then they should do it on the direct way, but not on the back of the team. So I will continue to work hard every day with the team, Peter StOger will continue to work hard to bring about solutions in a positive sense, create economic conditions, then the team step by step – that will not happen in January.
LAOLA1: In other words, the Austria will not deviate from its red line to meet the fans in this regard?
Kraetschmer: No! The red line means: No politics, no violence and no illicit pyrotechnics! In addition, pyrotechnics, the other endangered – as happened in Pasching – is not tolerated at all. There will be the corresponding researches. These are not arbitrary acts, there is not excluded the whole grandstand, but it is working hard to filter out the right people on the video surveillance, photos, with the support of the police. And then there will be the association law measures – house bans, stadium bans – or you will then take people into recourse, to send a signal – because we get a sensitive fine, where then again money on other side missing. This is not a trivial offense! This red line is valid – it has been applied before and will apply afterwards.
LAOLA1: Fan protests like these are far from helpful in finding new sponsors. How much does that make the task more difficult?
Kraetschmer: Of course, it is not necessarily helpful if you try to explain it. But here – I notice that already in the discussions with many people nationally and internationally – the line, which drives the Austria, is well endorsed. These are also experienced people. That really is not a specific feature of Austria – we experience that in Austria with other clubs, we experience that with international clubs. With all understanding for emotionality and also details of the protest – if it works like this time, then we will accept that. I do not understand it, because you sacrifice too much power without responding to the team. You just have to separate it. We have to represent Austria Wien in the best possible way. There are other indications for sponsors and investors. And what strength the Austria already has, if it is going well, you have seen yes, this evidence is yes. Everyone is aware that this is a difficult period, but we have a very clear plan, know what steps we want and will take to get out of here. We work hard every day with hard work. If we had not, we would probably have a much bigger problem.
LAOLA1: What is the feedback from sponsors – rather negative because of the current problems, or do they already see what Austria stood for in successful times?
Kraetschmer: Point one: Basically, the line is goutiert that we have been doing for years in terms of fan protests. Point two: Of course, the people who know Austria from history, also from the expectations. But that is not the main topic, it is about which plan we also outline for the future and how we implement our international ambitions in combination with the infrastructure. The conditions are very good. The whole structure with the Young Violets in the 2nd league, with the academy, with the topics women's football, eSports etc. is good. Of course the engine is the fighting team – and we do not perform as we expect it to. But an investor or strategic sponsor can distinguish that. If you teach him credibly and sustainably the program of how to get out of this current crisis, then he will get into these issues as well. These are framework conditions that give us economic opportunities again. The art then is to find the right people for it. That's no secret at all. We have tried in the past to the best of our knowledge and belief. Since obviously mistakes have happened, otherwise we would not be in the situation. But one has already seen again: The topic of uncertainty and psychological pressure is a very big issue in the current situation.
LAOLA1: So is the appeal to the fans to keep the ball flat and let the club do its job?
Kraetschmer: The appeal to the fans is to support the team because it needs it. When we have a successful team, everyone else joins in and gives us the time to do the time, the concentration and our job properly. Because the whole binds capacity, may distract from positive things – that must be the goal. I assume that all fans love the club. I also understand the disappointment. Personally, as an Austrian I am also completely disappointed with the performance. That others currently perform better than us – I think of the LASK – and on a different level than we, is to be recognized. But we have a lot of ambitions, ideas, very concrete plans to get back there with the framework conditions. That we have prepared something – with stadium, infrastructure, internationalization and digitization – is beyond question.
